Colonial Village Condominiums

An urban oasis

We are the condominiums of historic Colonial Village in Arlington, Virginia. Situated on more than 50 rolling acres, our colonial revival-style red brick buildings are linked by a series of picturesque courtyards and gardens.

Our Community

There are few places in the country that allow one to turn city living on and off like Colonial Village. Residents are able to follow the winding pathways through beautifully landscaped gardens and courtyards, with or without their best animal friend, and then connect immediately to a high-rise city. The Courthouse neighborhood alone houses more than 25 restaurants and bars, a movie theatre, weekly farmers’ and flea markets, Capital Bikeshare stations and a subway station (Courthouse Metro). Within a 2-mile radius, residents may also enjoy the plentiful amenities provided by The Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor and Washington, DC.

History

Gustave Ring, an early developer in the area, was responsible for the creation of our community between 1935 and 1940. Ring was already a noted developer in the Washington area when he came up with the innovative idea of a large complex of garden apartments in Arlington to help house the federal workers who descended on Washington under the New Deal. As the first apartment complex funded through the Federal Housing Administration, Colonial Village's eventual 1,052 units were a model development in both the Washington area and the country. Ring created a number of other developments, including the Ring Building (in Washington) and the Woodmont Country Club.

Colonial Village continued to hold an important place in Ring's portfolio until 1977 when he sold it to Mobil Land Development. It was this sale, and the eventual designation of Colonial Village as Arlington County Landmark and entry on the National Register of Historic Places, that led to the formation of our three condominium associations (the 118 buildings which make up Colonial Village I, II, and III), 10 co-operative buildings, and two rental organizations.
